Werewolf:Lodge of the Roc
Hello,
My name is Aaron Thompson, and I will be using this letter to introduce you into the new World of Darkness system which you may or may not be used to. Everything you will need to know will be drawn from “World of Darkness” The main book from White Wolf, it will show you Character Creation, and basic gaming principles.
I will be drawing from the other Core books, “Mage: Awakening” “Vampire: The Requiem” and “Werewolf: The Forsaken” with some personally added concepts and ideas not found in White Wolf’s new World of Darkness.
I will make available the World of Darkness book to those that wish to make characters and do not have access to it, but ultimately I wish to keep the other books separate. You may or may not have read them, which is fine, but in order to reduce out of character knowledge affecting game play, I would rather hold my books and give you the knowledge as your character discovers it. This is a personal style, if you prefer not to have it, I would like to know now, and ultimately I don’t seek to keep information from you as players, (for example you could easily buy the books I am using and read them yourself) but as it is likely most players first time playing, it would be a new experience.
I will require everyone create a mortal character, who could exist today in the World at large, as of right now. I will not be limiting any merits (max of 7 as per book), but a point to note I will not be using Flaws, people are welcome to have flaws but I won’t be incorporating any benefit to having them. Characters can have 5 in any one stat (Only one is possible) but I want at least a convincing statement (Not a story) as to why they may have this.
Important to note, when you write your background I REQUIRE the following:
Resources on Final Draft of Character Sheet (All other Merits too)
Family Situation (I need names and basic idea of who they are)
Job (What do you do?)
Hobbies
Lastly, I need a day out of the life of your character, on a Tuesday. (Weither a story, an agenda, or another creative way of doing it, I will require this)
Some information you might be interested in knowing:
I have been a Storyteller of World of Darkness (New) since the book came out, I have run successfully 8 campaigns of sit down and 1 LARP. I’m fairly flexible and am willing to hear out any and all problems. If you don’t think I am approachable in person, I have MSN, and email that you are welcome to use. I ultimately love the game, and care about my players. I put forth a lot of effort in making separate storylines, have each NPC written out with a background and personality, and don’t mind individualism (If a single player character wishes to go out between games to do their own thing they are welcome, I normally dislike this DURING the actual games, as I am trying to bring about a group idealism)
Player Death – It may happen, I do not pull punches when it comes to fights, but am willing to be somewhat sympathetic during the first few games. This is a dangerous world, please don’t go into it half-cocked.
Horror Genre – NOTHING IS SACRED in my game, not any member of your characters family, not any religious ideals, not any concept of good or evil. Those who are squeamish, understand that this is entirely a game setting, nothing in it is real. I desire characters to keep themselves entirely separate from their character, and be able to know the importance of real life commitment. If this line cannot be drawn, I would rather not have them play.
Personal Scenes – If you decide as a group, or as a couple people, to get together for an outside scene, I’m more then alright with it. However, in order for it to be substantiated you must tell me in email the basics of the scene, if not the dialog that happened. If you decide this week we’re going to build an ark with our resources, and don’t tell me, you still have all your money and no ark.
Outside Friends – “Hey I have this friend….. she wants to try and…” This statement happens from time to time. I am more then open to have new players join my game! Please bring them forth to me prior to game via email, MSN or PM and we can set up a time to have them make a character. This would be best to explain some of the finer points of LARPing to those who have never done it before.
Rules Lawyers – “You know, that’s wrong! The proper way to do it is….” Hey I am human, I make mistakes from time to time… I may ask you to roll Perception and Brawl by accident sometime… this is an obvious mistake, I expect respectfully stating, “Your asking me to roll Perception and Brawl, do you mean Strength and Brawl?” I appreciate when someone points out to me a mistake I made without making a scene out of it. However if I make a choice in the rolls, for example say, “Roll Presence and Empathy” do not stand up and say, “My Presence goes with my crafts, if you want me to roll anything with it, it has to be that.” Because that’s not cool, I would reply, “Roll it, now.” And should the issue be pressed, I will take it as a failed roll, “You notice a woman obviously afraid of you run down the street, obviously you were not pleasant enough to approach with whatever problem she may have had…” I’m reasonable, but sometimes for story sake I will ask you to roll dice for my own needs, you have a right to question it, but if I say Trust me, try to give me that bit of lei way.
Have Fun – If you hate my style, dislike me, or players around you, come forth with the issues to me. If your not having fun ultimately, I would rather you have the opportunity to do something that is more fun and open a slot for other players if they want it. I don’t want people to feel forced to play… I’m here for fun as much as you.
