For those of you who've been playing Werewolf awhile I'd like to hear some stories of how you've played Alpha of a pack before, or seen it played. I know it can be done in as many ways as one can imagine, but some new to the game may need some help picturing the role.

The best way I've seen is what's known as a Revolving Alpha...
A pack of 5 with Every Auspice, (or any numbers therein) the person who knows the most about the situation and can best lead in it, simply does.
In the Spirit World that can be the Ithaeur... guiding you through the terrain of wild spirits and mystic energies...
In the Physical World, when faced with a huge gang, it would likely be the Rahu who jumps in and tells everyone their tactical commands...
In the Commerce world it would be the one with the most influence...
When scouting or reconnaissance its the Irraka... who guides the pack...
Cheers,
Aaron

Another alternative is simply whoever can hold the position does. Sometimes because someone has a tactical insight, they guide the party but modify the plans as per input. Other times, packs simply fight over it one way or another. Determine what kind of "family" feel your pack has and what qualities work best to keep everyone cohesive. Sometimes it's the rotating method that works best, other times it's the bright and brilliant leader everyone can fall into step behind. I'm not putting one method above another - just putting out some ideas.
